MaxLinear Reaches New Record with More than 100 Million TV Tuner IC Shipments

Latest Milestone Achieved Just Months After 50 Million Announcement – Driven by Company's Successful Move into Cable and TV Set Markets

Carlsbad, Calif. — Jun. 09, 2010 MaxLinear Inc., (NYSE: MXL) a leading provider of integrated radio frequency (RF) and mixed-signal integrated circuits for broadband communication applications, today announced it has shipped more than 100 million TV tuner ICs. This milestone comes just 12 months after the company announced it had surpassed 50 million units shipped.

While MaxLinear has had continued great product acceptance in the ISDB-T mobile television market, this latest achievement can be attributed the company's successful penetration into the cable and TV set markets with its MxL20xRF family of silicon cable television tuners and demodulators and its MxL30xRF family of low-power hybrid digital/analog silicon tuners for the next generation of small and large screen television applications.

"When MaxLinear made the decision to broaden its market, we knew that the cable and TV systems markets' need for lower power and smaller size would make these segments a great growth opportunity for MaxLinear," said Kishore Seendripu, Chief Executive Officer of MaxLinear. "This announcement represents a huge achievement for MaxLinear, as we've doubled our shipments in less than a year, proving the performance and value of our solutions."

All of MaxLinear's products are based on a standard digital CMOS architecture. MaxLinear's engineers have adapted CMOS to the high-performance demands of the TV tuner market, while leveraging the technology's small size, low power and low cost advantages.

The MxL20xRF family is aimed at set-top-boxes (STBs), digital video recorders (DVRs), cable modems, EMTAs, cable gateways and cable-enabled televisions. The MxL20xRF family features integrated channel filtering and on-chip 94dB gain to deliver high quality signal reception of weak signals even under conditions of significant channel loading, severe transmission spectrum tilt, and strong adjacent digital and analog channel blockers. Measuring only 5 mm x 5mm in a 32-pin QFN package, the MxL20xRF tuners deliver the highest performance in accordance with the ANSI/SCTE40, DOCSIS/EURODOCSIS, and ITU-T J.83 cable industry standards.

The MxL30xRF family is designed for high-performance hybrid TV applications that require analog as well as digital performance. The MxL30xRF family offers low power consumption, consuming only 500 mW in contrast to competing tuners that can consume up to 1.5 watts each. Measuring 5mm x 5mm in a 32-pin QFN package, the MxL30xRF family is highly integrated, with built-in features such as a SAW filter function, LNAs, tracking and loop filters. The MxL30xRF family supports major analog and digital TV standards, digital terrestrial reception standards and digital cable standards for Europe, China, India and Annex B.
