Joining Exar's proven and extensive T1/E1 device family, the company adds hree new products. A single-channel XRT83SL30, a quad (four-channel) XRT83SL34, and octal (eight-channel) XRT83SL38. These devices are ideal for the high andwidth needs from the backbone or Core to the Metro Area Network. OEM roducts for this technology include Multi-Service Provisioning Platforms (MSPP), access devices, media gateways, routers frame relay access devices, and ireless base stations.

What is R3 TechnologyTM?

Exar's R3 TechnologyTM Reconfigurable, Relayless Redundancy) delivers key innovative features to customers designing T1/E1/J1 interface cards. The devices are Reconfigurable -- integrated termination supporting all common T1/E1/J1 line impedances (75-120 ohms) enabling customers to build boards with a single bill-of-materials. Exar's on-board reconfigurable clock synthesizer allows manufacturers to build hardware in advance and configure the product (in software) for the particular application or market at the time of shipment. Conventional approaches require fixed settings - T1, or E1, or J1, forcing customers to determine device settings before manufacturing, and carry all configurations in inventory even if they are not immediately required. Also, the series employs Relayless Redundancy eliminating the need for external relays for 1:1 and 1+1 applications by establishing a back-up channel that is brought on-line in event of failure.

Product Highlights

The devices support all international (North America, Europe, or Japan) line impedances at 75, 100, 110, and 120-ohms. The XRT83SL8X series has a frequency synthesizer that can take a number of different clocks and generate either a 1.544 MHz clock for T1/J1, or 2.048 MHz for E1. The devices meet, or exceed popular etworking specifications ITU G.703, G.775, and ANSI T1.402. In addition, the devices support the Bellcore GR-499 core and ANSI T1.402. Also, they have a low jitter, on-chip frequency multiplier that provides the necessary clocks to the chip. The master clock that feeds the multiplier can be T1, E1, or lower rates that are frequently available on a board such as 8, 16, 56, 64, 128 and 256kHz.

Other features of the family include a parallel microprocessor bus supporting both synchronous and asynchronous microprocessor interfaces for Motorola, Intel and MIPS processors, a crystal-less jitter attenuator that can be switched into either the transmit or receive path, and a quasi random signal synthesizer/detector for support bit error rate testing.
