China Cable Leaders in Yueqing and Yuxi To Deploy MaxLinear’s c.LINK 1.1+ Broadband Access Solution

March 23, 2016
  • New MaxLinear Customers Service Millions of Customers in Zhejiang and Yunnan Provinces; c.LINK 1.1+ Products From Multiple OEMs Approved by SARFT

MaxLinear, Inc. (NYSE: MXL), a leading provider of radio frequency (RF) and mixed-signal integrated circuits for cable and satellite broadband communications, the connected home, and for data center, metro, and long-haul fiber networks, today announced that the leading cable multi system operators (MSO) in the Chinese cities of Yueqing and Yuxi will deploy broadband customer premise equipment (CPE) products using MaxLinear’s c.LINK 1.1+ access technology.

Both cable companies serve their namesake cities, with the Yuxi cable system serving a city of 2.5 million people located in the Yunnan Province in central China. The Yueqing cable system is built for a community of more than 1 million people in the Zhejiang Province in eastern China.

c.LINK 1.1+ products are being demonstrated during the 2016 China Content Broadcasting Network (CCBN) conference in Beijing from March 24-26, 2016, in a suite at the adjoining Radisson Blu hotel.

With the ever-increasing demand for Internet service in China, MSOs need a reliable and cost effective way to deliver high-speed broadband to their subscribers to support double play and streaming IP video services. c.LINK 1.1+ provides the optimal solution by using existing coax cabling to deliver IP services without disrupting existing TV services using high-performance and low-cost broadband equipment.

Delivering speeds up to 800 Mbps of usable MAC throughput, c.LINK 1.1+ is the latest generation Ethernet over Coax (EoC) solution designed to distribute broadband service within multi-dwelling units (MDU) using existing coax cabling. The c.LINK 1.1+ solution is comprised of the EN3681-based network controller (NC) and the EN3690-based customer premise equipment (CPE) integrated circuits. A full-performance c.LINK 1.1+ platform includes four EN3681 NC SoCs, which can support up to 128 EN3690 CPE devices.

c.LINK 1.1+ solutions provide a scalable point-to-multipoint network with flexible operating spectrum and low latency. Using MaxLinear’s c.LINK 1.1+ software development kit, service levels can be configured on a per-CPE basis, enabling various ways to manage quality-of-service and monitor overall network conditions.

Building upon the foundation of previous generations of c.LINK equipment and MSO deployments, there is a growing ecosystem of OEMs that already have c.LINK 1.1+ equipment ready and approved by the Chinese State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT).

“MaxLinear is delighted to have MSOs in Yueqing and Yuxi be the latest to join our family of c.LINK 1.1+ customers,” said Will Torgerson, MaxLinear Vice President & General Manager of Broadband Group. “Our c.LINK 1.1+ products will enable them to offer premium broadband speeds and secure high value subscribers. China’s broadband initiatives represent a tremendous opportunity for MaxLinear and we are committed to pushing forward with even higher performance c.LINK access solutions in the future.”

“China’s MSOs like those in Yueqing and Yuxi are continually looking at ways to offer their subscribers the best possible service and value,” said Dr. Yao, Chairman of Luster Group. “Luster’s c.LINK1.1+ customer premise equipment provides a way for operators to scale up their broadband speeds in a cost-effective manner. c.LINK 1.1+ has the capability to offer 50 Mbps or even 100 Mbps Internet speeds to an MDU subscriber, much faster than what older Ethernet-over-Coax technologies could deliver. With the ability to offer broadband at these speeds, cable operators are well positioned to offer competitive double play and streaming video services using CPE from Luster.”
